Hilary Duff has snagged herself a Canadian. According to sources, the 19-year-old pop star is dating Edmonton native Mike Comrie, 26. The couple was snapped in Santa Monica on Wednesday night after enjoying a romantic dinner at Il Ristorante di Giorgio Baldi. They drove off together in Comrie’s vehicle. Comrie, who made his NHL debut in the 2000-01 season with the Oilers, has not been popular with Edmonton hockey fans since a contract dispute that led to his trade to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Before signing a one-year deal with the Islanders last month, Comrie played briefly for the Ottawa Senators.
Duff, who has made a music video and three feature films in Toronto, has a clothing, fragrance and jewelry line aimed at the youth market. She dated singer Aaron Carter in 2002 and had a two-year relationship with Good Charlotte lead singer Joel Madden, 28, that ended last November.
Comrie and Duff have at least one thing in common: Both their fathers have retail backgrounds. Bill Comrie is founder of The Brick chain of furniture stores and Robert Duff is the owner of a chain of convenience stores. Duff kicks off a 12-city Canadian concert tour Saturday in Winnipeg. She plays Edmonton’s Rexall Place on Aug. 1.
