Hilary Duff tells Deany Judd about her best and worst holidays.

Which was your best holiday?
A couple of years ago a bunch of my friends and I went to Hawaii. We did all sorts of things we had never done before - we surfed and hiked, and we went on a ship and dived out in the ocean.

‘I always pack too much and then have to spend a huge amount of time unpacking at the other end’

We also rode quad bikes, however my friend fell off and almost broke his leg which put an end to that. We also simply just sat around a fire and had fun. It was a blast.

And the best hotel you’ve stayed in?
The Park Hyatt Tokyo. I love everything about it. It has a wonderful restaurant where they serve Kobe beef; it’s so good that I order it for breakfast. The staff are wonderful and the bathrooms are awesome.

They have ‘’cool'’ showers and advanced technology when it comes to the layouts and designs. I like hotels because you can get comfortable, yet you can still order room service or go swimming or relax in a Jacuzzi in your room.

Which is the worst hotel you’ve stayed in?
A dive in Erie, Pennsylvania. My room was filled with ants and the housekeeper let my dog out. Luckily, I found Lola outside wandering around. I won’t be going back.

What do you need for a perfect holiday?
I don’t really need activity, but I really like the water. I love to swim in the pool and go into the ocean with the waves. Sometimes I like going sightseeing or going on a dolphin adventure, it depends what I’ve been doing.

What do you always take with you?
Bathing suit, cover up, iPod and speakers, a hat, sun block, sun glasses and a camera. Also, I love to take my dogs if I can. We have five dogs. I have Lola, a Chihuahua, and Jack, a short-haired dog.

My sister and my mom have pocket Pomeranians named Bentley and Macy. And we have inherited my grandmother’s dog, Coco. So, we have our hands full.

Where do you want to go next?
Thailand would be cool. I have heard so many things about the shops, and American money has value over there. I want to see the streets and the land, too. I stopped there once, but it was for a four-hour stopover, so I’d love to get to spend real time there.

What do you avoid on holiday?
Crowds, diets and my manager’s phone calls.

What do you hate about holidays?
Security checks and long plane rides.
