Singer, songwriter, actress, fashion designer, fragrance owner, TV star and teen idol Hilary Duff has met adoring, screaming fans in Sydney ahead of her concert on Saturday night.
A crowd of hundreds gathered at Myer’s Sydney city store where the 20-year-old made her only official public appearance outside of her three-concert Australian schedule.
“It’s really good to be here again,” Duff said, barely audible above the screaming crowd, dominated by teenage girls waving homemade banners.
Friends Jordan Henry, 11, and Mia Petrou, 10, travelled with their mothers from the NSW Central Coast to be in Sydney to see the star at Myer before heading to Acer Arena for Saturday night’s concert.
“We bought tickets to her concert as soon as they went on sale,” an excited Jordan said as she gripped a collage poster of Duff.
“We’ve got all of her albums and we love her.
“We only like her, not any of the others like Britney.”
Duff is earning herself a name as the good girl of stardom with the controversial demise of fellow American singers and actors such as Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, whose naughty and sometimes naked antics keep them in the headlines.
Wearing a dark pencil skirt and grey singlet top, a beaming Duff graced the stage at Myer on Saturday afternoon to launch her latest fragrance, Wrapped With Love.
More than 150 fans queued for the singer’s autograph and to exchange a few words.
“I told her that I can’t wait for the show tonight and that I’m a big fan and have been for years,” said Jose, 20, proudly showing off his signed photograph of Duff.
Duff, who has sold more than one million copies of her three albums, played in Brisbane on Thursday night and will head from Sydney to Melbourne on Sunday for the last concert of her Australian tour.
“It was really, really great … the fans were crazy. I love that it always makes for a great show,” Duff said of her Brisbane concert.
